Tears of joy, heartfelt emotions, and overwhelming excitement filled the air as indigenous families in the Babban Saura community of Millennium City received their certified letters of land offers from the Kaduna State government. The historic event was part of Governor Uba Sani’s pilot project to compensate communities whose lands were acquired without compensation by previous administrations, which marked a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to address long-standing grievances.
The Director General of the Kaduna State Geographic and Information Services (KadGis), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, personally delivered the certified true copies of the land offer letters to the beneficiaries at their homes. Dr. Ibrahim, who conveyed the governor’s goodwill, congratulated the families and reiterated the administration’s commitment to justice and fairness.
“This is part of the ongoing pilot project of compensation directed by His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani, to communities whose lands were collected without compensation by the previous administration in the state,” Dr. Ibrahim explained.
He said that the Babban Saura community had been locked in a seven-year struggle with the state government until Governor Uba Sani’s intervention. “The governor directed that their 30% zero premium be offered, which is what KadGis has done,” he added.
The initiative, which has already seen over 4,000 land offers signed, is a testament to the governor’s resolve to right the wrongs of the past. Dr. Ibrahim assured residents that the government remains open to addressing any complaints, stating, “People are the government, and therefore, we are here to serve the people. We are not going to demolish anyone’s building.”
For many beneficiaries, the moment was deeply emotional. Some trembled with gratitude as they thanked Governor Uba Sani for his foresight and people-oriented leadership. Others were left speechless, overwhelmed by the joy of finally receiving what they had long fought for. The gesture was widely praised, with many lauding Dr. Ibrahim for delivering the offers directly to their homes.
The compensation program has signalled a new era of inclusivity and justice for indigenous communities. As the pilot project continues to roll out, residents of Babban Saura and other affected communities are hopeful that this marks the beginning of a brighter, more equitable future.
