Captain Caleb Danladi Bako, CEO of the Caleb Danladi Foundation, has urged Nigeria to invest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to address the problem of out-of-school children. He said this is not just important for education but also for the economy and society.
Speaking at an event, Captain Bako warned that without proper skills, children will fall behind as the world becomes more advanced. He stressed the need for action now to ensure every child has access to education and opportunities. "Education is the foundation of a strong society, but millions of children are still out of school," he said.
He explained that traditional schools alone cannot solve the problem and called for new learning methods focused on STEM. He also highlighted the importance of partnerships between governments, NGOs, and private companies to create solutions.
Many out-of-school children are forced to work at a young age, which stops them from going to school. Captain Bako suggested that teaching them STEM skills could help them find jobs or even start their own businesses. "STEM training can teach children skills in areas like renewable energy, digital technology, and engineering," he said.
The Caleb Danladi Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality education for every child, regardless of their circumstances, through targeted STEM initiatives.
