As a loyal aide to Governor Uba Sani, I have been inundated with questions about my silence on former Governor Nasir El-Rufai's recent criticism of our principal, the APC, and President Tinubu. While my boss and I hold Governor El-Rufai in high esteem, I feel compelled to address the unfortunate tone and language used in his criticism.
Governor El-Rufai's allegations that the APC is comprised of "illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people" are not only surprising but also hurtful, considering his own son, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, is an active APC member ¹. Moreover, his former Chiefs of Staff, Mohammed Sani Dattijo and Hadiza Bala Usman, as well as his former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and current Minister of Environment, Abass Balarabe, are also respected members of the APC.
As someone who values respect and decorum, I find it disturbing that Governor El-Rufai would disregard the dignity of his own family members and former colleagues. His careless statements have not only sparked controversy but also raised questions about his relationships with APC members.
While Governor El-Rufai has been critical of the APC's direction, stating that the party has "derailed" from its founding ideals and principles, his comments about the party's membership have crossed a line ¹. As a public figure, it is essential to maintain a level of respect and civility, even when expressing disagreements.
In conclusion, I hope Governor El-Rufai will take a step back and reflect on the impact of his words. As a respected leader, he has a responsibility to promote unity and respect within the APC, rather than sowing discord and division.
Eventhough, the hand writing is clear, El-Rufai is struggling to have a new platform rather than APC but he shall know also those his people who are much alive in APC. And also not to confirm to the world of the description of Papa Obasanjo's definition of him on his book under my watch.
