DITV and Alheri Radio Suspend Broadcast Activities

The Management of DESMIMS Broadcast Nigeria, operators of DITV and Alheri Radio, has announced the suspension of its broadcast activities until further notice. This decision, however, does not affect Alheri Radio Zaria, which will continue its operations.

In a press statement signed by Idris Mustapha, the Acting General Manager and Chairman of the Management Committee, the suspension was attributed to the escalating cost of power. The statement emphasized that the financial burden has been compounded by harsh economic conditions, which have significantly impacted revenue generation. Many businesses that utilize the services of the stations are reportedly unable to fulfill their financial obligations.

As the first private television station to go on air in Nigeria and one of the oldest private radio stations with a strong following in Hausa broadcasting, the announcement marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s media landscape.

The management assured the public that normal transmission would resume as soon as the financial situation improves. They expressed regret for the inconvenience the suspension may cause to their millions of viewers and listeners.

DITV and Alheri Radio have long been recognized for their contribution to Nigeria’s broadcasting industry, and their absence is expected to be felt widely across the audience spectrum.
