KADUNA COUNCIL STAKEHOLDERS ENDORSES GARBA AS NUJ NEXT PRESIDENT

 





Stakeholders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ have unanimously endorsed the aspiration of Garba Muhammad to contest as NUJ President at the forthcoming National Delegates’conference, slated to hold in Owerri, Imo State. 

Speaking at a consultative meeting held in Kaduna on Wednesday, the Kaduna State Council Chairman of the NUJ, Hajiya Asma’u Yawo Halilu said that Garba’s Presidential project should be supported by all in order to restore the past glory of the NUJ. 

“This is our project and we will do everything possible to deliver it, in shaa Allah”, She said.

Yawo pledged that the project will be vigorously pursued to ensure its success.

Earlier, the Presidential aspirant said that the meeting was organised to interface with the stakeholders for a wider consultation, and to formally declare his intention to run for the office of NUJ presidency. 

Garba stated that his ambition to become the next NUJ President was predicated on his genuine desire to pick up from where the past NUJ leaders stopped and improve the status of the union. 

He said he is genuinely concerned with the welfare of Journalists in the country and would do everything possible to improve on it. Garba further said that his tenure will mark the begining of massive international and local trainings for Journalists across all part of the country. 

He also said that he would hold professionalism and ethics with highest esteem and would do everything possible to encourage NUJ members to adhere to the two key watchwords. 

Other critical areas he promised to look into, include the profitable utilisation of the NUJ National Secretariate land, registration of members as well as profitable engagement of retired NUJ members. 


"In his remarks at the consultative meeting, veteran and former Kaduna Council Chairman Mal Yunusa Aliyu praised Garba’s competence, urging All to take ownership of the project.


He said that based on interactions, he is confident that Garba has the capacity to take the NUJ to greater heights. In attendance at the meeting were all past Kaduna State Council NUJ Chairmen, former National officers residing in Kaduna, as well as all Chapel Chairmen and Secretaries under the Kaduna State Council."
