Sports Legendary Awards 2024: Akpabio, Mutfwang, Diri, Edeh, and Kangiwa Recognized for Empowering Youth and Promoting Sports Development







In a remarkable recognition of their outstanding contributions to sports development and youth empowerment, some Nigerian leaders have been nominated for the 2024 Sports Legendary Awards.

The Senate President, Sen. Dr. Godswill Akpabio, has been nominated for his outstanding contributions to sports development and youth empowerment in Nigeria. As a former Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, he built one of the best sporting infrastructures in Sub-Saharan Africa and introduced new competitive sporting activities, promoting talent and opportunities for young athletes.

Similarly, the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has been nominated for his unwavering commitment to promoting sports development in Plateau State. 

His leadership and visionary initiatives have inspired countless young individuals to explore their passions and unleash their full potential in various sporting disciplines.

On the other hand, Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, has been nominated for his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to empowering the youth and promoting sports development in Bayelsa State. 

As a former Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development in Bayelsa State, he introduced a policy of automatic employment for sportsmen and women who excelled in national and international competitions, creating a legacy that continues to groom young talents in the state.

Meanwhile, the Founder of Ratel Sports Development Foundation, Barr. Paul Edeh, has been nominated for his outstanding contributions to sports development in Nigeria, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Benue State Football Association.

Additionally, Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa, President of the Nigeria Polo Federation, has also been nominated for the 2024 Sports Legendary Award in the category of "Most Outstanding Sports Personality in Nigeria & Icon in Polo Administrator of the Year 2024".

The nomination recognizes Kangiwa's unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to empowering the youth and promoting sports development in Nigeria. His exemplary leadership and visionary initiatives have inspired countless young individuals to explore their passions and unleash their full potential in various sporting disciplines.

Since his election as President of the Nigeria Polo Federation, Kangiwa has brought significant progress and turnaround to the industry, building unity among stakeholders and strengthening the business of polo in Nigeria. 

His outstanding performance and leadership have also attracted federal government support for the game of polo in Nigeria and beyond.

This spectacular event, endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, will be held at Exclusive Serene Hotel, Abuja.
