The 2024 Sports Legendary Awards will honor distinguished sports heroes and politicians who have made significant contributions to sports development in Nigeria. The awards ceremony will take place in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, and will recognize a mixture of legendary sports administrators and active sportsmen and women.
Leading the list of nominees is the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, CON, who has been nominated as the "2024 Most Supportive Youth and Sports Empowerment Politician in West Africa."
This recognition is due to his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to youth empowerment and sports development across Nigeria.
Other notable nominees include the Executive Governors of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, and Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, CON. Governor Mutfwang has been nominated as the "2024 Sports Legendary Award Nomination: Most Friendly Governor to Youth & Icon of Hope in Sports Sponsorship," while Governor Diri will be recognized as the "2024 Sports Legendary Award Nomination: Outstanding Sports Governor of the Year."
Additionally, several sports personalities have been nominated for their contributions to sports development in Nigeria. These include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Sports Senator John Enoh, World Champion athlete Tobi Amusan, Football legend Kanu Nwankwo, President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation Ahmed Kida, and President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation Uyi Akpata.
