Global AI Summit 2024 to Convene in Riyadh, Focusing on Generative AI and Ethical Governance





The third edition of the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit (GAIN) is set to take place from September 10-12, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). 

This summit, hosted by SDAIA, will bring together AI leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across the globe to explore the latest developments in artificial intelligence.


The event will be held at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center and will feature over 300 speakers from more than 100 countries. The summit will focus on key themes such as Generative AI, the role of AI in urban life, and the ethical governance of AI. 

It aims to provide a comprehensive platform for discussing the transformative impact of AI on society, business, and governance, while also paving the way for international collaborations that foster ethical innovation and address global AI challenges.


Prominent figures from the AI community, including top executives from Silicon Valley, influential policymakers, and renowned researchers, will lead discussions on critical issues. Notable participants include Professor Simon See, Global Head at Nvidia AI Technology Centre, Antony Cook, Deputy General Counsel at Microsoft, and Caroline Yap, Global Managing Director at Google Cloud. These leaders will explore the future of AI governance, the ethical implications of AI, and the role of international cooperation in harnessing AI's potential.


Key sessions at the summit will include a debate on the future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), panel discussions on AI-powered precision medicine, and workshops on AI's role in sustainable development and smart cities. The event will also address important topics such as the ethical AI framework and the impact of the Islamic World AI Charter.


His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, President of SDAIA, explained the significance of the summit, stating: "As we approach the third edition of the Global AI Summit, we stand poised at the threshold of a new era, where AI's transformative power will be harnessed to explore AI through the lens of 'Now, Next, Never'—examining the current state of AI, its future trajectory, and the ethical considerations necessary to ensure a desirable future. A future where the need for international collaboration to fully harness AI’s potential and manage its impact responsibly has never been more urgent.”


Dr. Alghamdi further emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to advancing AI technologies that benefit humanity, under the visionary leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He expressed excitement about welcoming global leaders and innovators to Riyadh, where they will collectively explore how AI can be leveraged to create a brighter, more inclusive future.


GAIN 2024 will feature over 120 interactive sessions, providing attendees with opportunities to network with industry pioneers and contribute to groundbreaking AI collaborations. 

The summit will also witness the signing of several agreements and announcements between SDAIA and global AI tech giants, further solidifying Saudi Arabia's role as a leader in the global AI landscape.
