The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL), in collaboration with several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and support groups, organized a peaceful solidarity rally in Abuja on Wednesday to express their unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari.
The rally was held in response to calls for President Tinubu to relieve the NNPCL boss of his position due to challenges facing the oil sector. Some have interpreted these calls as subtle attempts by adversaries of President Tinubu’s administration to undermine his leadership, particularly following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Speaking to journalists during the rally, the leader and Speaker of the AYAGL, Ambassador Abdul DanBature, said that the demonstration was intended to urge President Tinubu to ignore such calls, labeling them as the work of those opposed to the administration’s efforts to reform the oil sector.
"As a group committed to good leadership, we have recognized the capable leadership of Mele Kyari and are prepared to support him in his efforts to achieve success in the oil sector," DanBature stated.
He further highlighted Kyari’s impressive track record, acknowledging that while his successes have garnered attention, they have also attracted opposition from those who seek to tarnish his reputation.
The Speaker reiterated that the purpose of the rally was also to encourage Mr. Kyari to continue his work in repositioning the NNPCL for greatness, assuring him that the support from the group remains steadfast, despite calls for his removal by unnamed individuals.
"For us, we are dedicated to good governance and will support any organization, whether governmental or individual, that is promoting good leadership. That is why we have publicly declared our support for Mele Kyari and assured him that we will continue to stand by him," DanBature concluded.
