KADUNA STATE SCHOOLS QUALITY ASSURANCE AUTHORITY: Transforming Education and Ensuring Excellence

The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA) is at the forefront of transforming education in Kaduna State, aligning closely with Governor Uba Sani's SUSTAIN Agenda, which prioritizes education as a key driver of development. Under the leadership of Dr. Usman Abubakar Zaria, KSSQAA has introduced innovative measures that are revolutionizing the educational landscape. The support of the Honorable Commissioner of Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, and Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, has been pivotal to the success of these initiatives.

KSSQAA's efforts have significantly enhanced educational quality and boosted internally generated revenue (IGR) through various groundbreaking initiatives. One of these is the online accessibility of a comprehensive list of registered private schools, fostering transparency and facilitating easy access for parents, educators, and stakeholders.

The school monitoring tool has been fully digitized, enabling real-time monitoring of school activities and streamlining processes. Additionally, the whole school evaluation process is now online and point-based, allowing for quicker assessments and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

A key development under KSSQAA is the Edu-Monitor App, designed to revolutionize monitoring and evaluation processes by providing real-time data. Another innovative measure is the introduction of an annual operating license system, where renewals are based on financial compliance and adherence to quality assurance standards.

To combat counterfeiting, Provisional Approval and Consent Certificates have been redesigned with advanced security features. The recategorization process, which determines a school's tax level, has been automated and integrated into the annual renewal application, saving time and resources. BECE certificates now feature integrated security elements, and exam results are released before school resumption, fully digitized and accessible online, ensuring transparency and timely access to crucial information.

KSSQAA's dedication to innovation has translated into tangible results. There has been a significant improvement in NECO results, with 67% of students achieving five credits and above, including Mathematics and English, reflecting a 13% increase compared to the previous year.

This improvement is a testament to the enhanced quality of education across Kaduna State. Collaborative efforts with development partners like PLANE and WAEC have yielded impressive benefits. PLANE has trained 301 evaluators, strengthening the state's evaluation system, and established a modern ICT hub within KSSQAA. WAEC's commitment to constructing a modern CBT Centre in Kaduna underscores the collaborative spirit driving educational progress.

Kaduna's recent election to represent Education Directors on four strategic WAEC committees for a two-year term highlights the state's growing leadership role in education.

KSSQAA has been proactive in capturing and documenting educational data. The authority has recategorized 412 schools, identified and documented 488 unregistered schools, and 838 exam centers.

Over 2,000 private schools are now listed with their registration status on the official website. Additionally, 1,043 schools were monitored during the last resumption and mid-term exercises, demonstrating KSSQAA's commitment to continuous monitoring.

KSSQAA's enforcement actions ensure a level playing field and maintain high educational standards. The authority actively seeks out and registers unregistered schools to ensure all institutions meet quality standards. Registered schools are encouraged to pay their annual license renewal fees to support KSSQAA's operations and maintain their operating status. Secure, QR-enabled license certificates will be implemented to prevent counterfeiting and enhance transparency.

Private school recategorization ensures fair tax contributions based on their upgraded tax levels. Continuous monitoring and evaluation processes guarantee that schools deliver high-quality education. KSSQAA ensures schools utilize textbooks approved by the authority, maintaining a standardized and high-quality learning environment.

The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, under the exemplary leadership of Dr. Usman Abubakar Zaria and the support of Governor Uba Sani, Commissioner Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, and Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, continues to set new benchmarks in educational excellence.

KSSQAA remains dedicated to creating a conducive learning environment, empowering educators, and ensuring that students in Kaduna State receive the highest quality education.
