His Royal Majesty, Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alh. (Dr.) Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, joined other prominent traditional rulers at the 2024 International Horse Racing Derby, themed "Renew Hope 1st Anniversary Democracy Derby," held at Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna on July 13, 2024.
The event, organized by the Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria, featured five rounds of horse racing, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and enthusiastic horse riding skills of the Northerners. The top four winners received cash prizes and vehicles, with His Royal Majesty presenting a cash gift and a car to the first-place winner, Hon. Babangida Maina of Kebbe Horse Racing Nigeria.
The Ohinoyi Ebira, who is also the Coordinator of the North Central Zone of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, used the opportunity to connect with his people living in Kaduna, encouraging them to prioritize speaking their native dialect to their children. He emphasized the importance of language as a vital aspect of identity.
The event brought together other prominent traditional rulers, including the HRM Etsu Nupe Alh Dr Abubakar Yahaya Cfr, HRH Emir of Machina Alh. Dr. Bashir Albishir Bukar, Oluwo of Iwo Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi, HRM Emir of Zazzau Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, and representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto.
The International Horse Racing Derby provided a platform for the traditional rulers to connect and strengthen their relationships, promoting unity and cultural heritage in the region.
