Kaduna, Nigeria - The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has organized a capacity training workshop for tax administrators in the Northwest region, aimed at enhancing their skills in tax audit, investigation, compliance, and enforcement.
The event, which kicked off on Wednesday at the Assa Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna, was declared open by Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State and Special Guest of Honor.
Dr. Balarabe emphasized the importance of the training, given the increasing demand on governments amidst fluctuating oil revenues. She stressed the need for tax administrators to rise to the challenge, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
The Deputy Governor commended the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) for its innovative approaches, including the deployment of digital technology in tax administration through Project CRAFT and the PAYKADUNA Portal. She encouraged the service to continue plugging revenue leakages and strengthening the tax system.
The workshop aims to equip tax administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to overcome challenges in tax administration, promote transparency, efficiency, and fairness, and contribute to Nigeria's growth and prosperity.
Participants from various states in the Northwest region are attending the training, which promises to be productive and inspiring. The event provides an opportunity for tax administrators to share experiences, develop strategies, and build a more robust and efficient tax administration system.
In an address, National Secretary of the Joint Tax Board (JBT), Mr. Adesokan Olusegun said the training will build the capacity of tax administrators and enhance their skills and knowledge on tax audit, investigation and compliance.
The Secretary, JTB, further stressed that “the training exercise embodies the Boards’ commitment to building the capacity of our tax administrators, enhancing their skills and knowledge in tax audit procedures".
"We aim to equip tax professionals, especially at the sub-national level, with the current techniques and best practices in tax auditing”
Earlier the Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, emphasized the crucial role of tax audit and investigation in ensuring compliance and revenue generation. He commended the Joint Tax Board for their dedication to capacity building and encouraged participants to engage fully, share experiences, and adopt best practices.
The training program seeks to equip tax officers with the necessary skills and tools to perform their duties efficiently and effectively. It also highlights KADIRS' commitment to professional development and excellence in tax administration.
Tax experts and officers from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara are participating in the training, which covers topics such as tax audit, investigation, compliance, and enforcement. The event aims to foster collaboration and synergy among tax authorities in the region to overcome common challenges and achieve collective goals.
